Preschool Activity Ideas

One of the better approaches, when trying to think of preschool activities or preschool lessons for you and your child to do for home school activities, is that you dont get bogged down trying to be too structured. There is plenty of fun, educational, and informal preschool activities that you and your child can get involved in.

The top of the list when it comes to preschool activities and child learning would be reading. Getting the child involved early in learning to read, establishes good reading habits and a foundation that the child can learn from for a lifetime.

Learning to read for the child certainly doesnt have to limited to books. You should also include poetry, songs (while singing together); reading the boxes of their favorite toys, or anything that they are drawn to could be included in their homeschool preschool activities. Just be creative.

Preschool age is a wonderful learning time for the child. They are naturally full of wonderment and curiosity at the preschool age. Take advantage of this trait. Use everyday tasks around the house for learning activities. Sorting clothes by color for laundry, dishes by color or size, if you are doing some organizing around the house, use this opportunity to relate different shapes and sizes to your preschooler. When youre out and about in the world, always use this time as an educational moment. All the shapes sizes and colors you come across just at the grocery store alone make for a wonderful preschool activity. Its homeschooling and youre not in your home!

If, you run across a question you are unable to answer, dont just say that you arent sure or that you dont know and leave it at that. Take the opportunity to begin to instill another great learning skill into your child. That of looking something up for an answer to which you dont know. Even though the child cant search for the answer yet, they can, witness and be a part of this valuable information seeking procedure. I cant tell you what a valuable skill you will be instilling into your preschooler if you help them in developing this type of problem solving skill and attitude if you incorporate this into their daily preschool activities.

Preschool activities are limited only by your imagination.....child education is a wonderful experience, just relax, be informal, be creative.

Learning activities are indeed everywhere.

Flour Freak

Hafiy likes to play with 'vitriolic' things like deodorant, hair gel, body lotion, face masker, etc. and the worse part is he will end up eating them! (i caught him several times 'eating' those chemical. i think i should get rid all those thing by replacing the liquid deodorant with stone-type one and use beras goreng for face masker).

i've been thinking of making edible playdoh for him, but since our stove is out of order, instead i gave him flour to play with. and it was fun!

Hafiy's flour play:

- pour 2 cup of flour into medium sized basin.
- let him play with the flour and Mommy explains the flour texture.
- give him 2 empty cups and see what he will do with the cups. Mommy guides on how to put flour into each cup.
- Mommy pour a cup of water (little by little) onto the flour and see what happens. Mommy explains how the flour powder dilutes in water and change its state into liquid.
- Hafiy eats the mixture.
- game over.

a baker to-be am i?

oh it was really a good preoccupying moment for him and allowed me to do kitchen cleaning without 'unnecessary help' :P. Hafiy now likes to do his own experiment rather than listening to my order.

i admit that i don't spend much time with Hafiy, and if i do, it's not necessarily a quality time. i always need to lay down and just let him play alone (that's the answer why he able to get all those things mentioned in the first paragraph).

but, thanks Allah for making everything easy for me (after i-am-not-a-good-mother syndrome). Hafiy doesn't disappoint me when i put some expectation on him (even if it has to be 'many times').

thank you Allah for the syndrome i endured for many weeks. and yes, the tarbiyah from Allah came from many angles. i feel ease now. alhamdulillah...

********************

we've been dreaming for an iktikaf at Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (Masjid Shah Alam) since ever. but the previous Ramadhan, we were not assembled here, as Abiy were in Miri in 2006 and I was in KB in 2007. this year, we perform our puasa Ramadhan in KL. so, Abiy told me about iktikaf during the final nights of Ramadhan, all of us. we asked the people in the house, Tok Ma, Aunty Fatin, Uncle Muhd and not forgetting the one and only Bibik, and all of them interested to join.

we chose 27th Ramadhan, since it is the beginning of weekend and concurrent with Malam Tujuh Likur.

after tarawikh at Masjid Damansara Damai, we went to UM to fetch Aunty Fatin and straight to Shah Alam.

we just brought things such as telekung & al-Quran, with gebar & kasur to rest. for Hafiy i brought a pillow, a sweater, a blanket, diapers, a bottle of plain water, a bottle of milk (in case he needs milk & my letdown is nil, i can use the bottle), socks and books.

alhamdulillah, Hafiy slept like a log as we reached the masjid, gave me time to recite al-Quran. at about 1am, we slept and woke up at 3am to perform solat sunat. at around 4am, the masjid buat solat sunat tahajud, taubat & hajat berjemaah.

this time Hafiy woke up, and as usual, i prayed while carrying him. he was a bit cranky in the morning cos all his friends were still in deep sleep. oh why lah other babies can sleep very soundly despite the noise but my baby ni terus nak bangun... and Hafiy went back to sleep after the jemaah finished until Subuh.

we ate sahur, performed Subuh and went back home.

this is my very first experience spending a night in a masjid with my family and babies. i feel so good after doing it, even if get not enough sleep but we manage to do solat sunat, the thing that is very unlikely to perform at home, as Hafiy will wake up everytime i open my eyes after midnite. and the panggilan tilam calls me to re-sleep while making him sleep.

oh ya, a friend of mine once told, it's not good for a lady to spend time in masjid, as Rasulullah 'melarang' wanita ke masjid. i asked about the dalil, she said there's a hadis mentioning about solat wanita di rumah adalah lebih baik dan keluar ke masjid menjadi fitnah kepada wanita2 Islam. however, i told her (from my narrow knowledge), there lots of hadis about keutamaan wanita ke masjid such as : "janganlah kamu melarang kaum wanita pergi ke masjid" (HR Bukhari), "jika isteri kamu meminta untuk ke masjid, maka janganlah melarangnya" (HR Bukhari & Muslim). dan banyak kisah tentang wanita2 menyertai aktiviti di masjid.

and about the hadis tentang solat di rumah lebih baik, actually it is more than that. the full hadis is "janganlah kamu melarang wanita2 ke masjid, dan solat di rumah adalah lebih baik" (HR Abu Daud).

akhirul kalam,

SELAMAT MENGAKHIRI RAMADHAN al-MUBARAK,
SELAMAT MENYAMBUT HARI FITRAH,
& MAAF ZAHIR BATIN DARI KAMI SEKELUARGA.

jemputlah ke rumah!

Sejarah Kacang Botol Mami

sebelum tu Mami menjawab pertanyaan beberapa orang tentang kacang itu:

Q : dari mana dapat benih?
A: dari Embah kat Johor. ntah berapa lama dah benih tu sebenarnya. kami amik ms blk Johor bulan 12, bulan 3 baru disemai. har har har.

Q : apsal semai, tak tabur je?
A : ada beberapa sebab
1. Mami xde cangkul atau apa2 alat utk menggembur tanah.
2. tanah di area ni sangat subur, rumput amik masa seminggu dua je utk panjang ke lutut. kot tabur & bercambah jd mcm nasib ulam pegaga Mami dulu, asik kene cantasss je sbb grasscutter tu xperasan ada tumbuhan lain di sebalik rumput2 yg bergelimpangan.

Q : apsal kacang botol?
A : sebab Mami dah tanam beberapa kali kat kampung & semuanya membuahkan hasil lumayan.

lalu? apa yg terjadi kepada beliau?

imbas kembali kisah 2 bulan lalu. Mami ada mention pasal 'hopefully it's still subur'.

tp takpalah. lainkali kene buat ini dulu sebelum tanam apa2 benih:-
  • malam sebelum operasi menanam, pastikan benih betul2 bercambah dgn merendam mereka dalam air paip or air suam2 kuku (jgn air panas pulak kang mati terus).
  • sediakan tanah dari awal dengan melembabkannya selama 3 hari sebelum penananam.
bila nak dpt benih baru ni..

Easy Craft?

Abiy's the one who responsible on our house billings. and he's always misplaces the bills. should we make something to help Abiy?

bahan2. paper plates, old magazine, scissors, glue, stapler.

cut one of the paper plate into half.

cut any favorable pictures or colors or words from the mag. and glue them on another paper plate. the face facing up.

cantum with the cut halved plate using stapler and glue more pictures on the plates.

"Mommy let me help you"

tada!!! stick it onto the wall and now Abiy can put the bills inside this bill bag.

it's all about work

in office
we're entering our new financial year. gosh this must be a tight year for me [after a year of honeymoon last year :P].

it's so stressful. but still happy cos i still manage to pump 4 times during the not-so-happy hour and collect 16oz per day :D [not that much for 4 sessions, but alhamdulillah~]

i think i need a break. oh please... it might looks very simple to some people, but to me, it is sooo... stressful!

& i'm collaborating with Ummi Iman 'Iffah, preparing a proposal to have a Mother's Room in our office. still in draft. hopefully we'll get one.

out of office
we're planning to form our playgroup. it could be a simple activity, mom-to-mom and parent-to-parent sharing. we're still working on it.

O Allah please give me enough time to prepare everything and work my plans [i mean, enough courage to re-arrange my time].

Planting Winged Bean

the winged beans

Mommy got the seeds from Embah Buyut when we went to Johor last December. [hopefully it's still 'subur'].

we just able to plant the seeds last week, after buying a-20-kilos of humus soil from Pasar Malam Saberkas.

Mommy used to plant this winged bean, many times, and the most significant ones was during my unemployed period, i planted it behind Mak Tok's house, and until now they still can have it as ulam! good enough huh.

gardening is a good activity i guess, good exercise and fruitful! and jimat since we don't need much capital. just rm5 for the soil and other things are free.

empty egg carton

humus soil

the seeds

tap water

the plant manager

filling the soil into egg carton

done!

put the seed onto the soil

seedy soil

done!

watering them

good job Mommy!

put it under roof, yet allow for sunlight

the journal

now after a week...

still nothing change. haha. have to wait for another 2-3 days i guess...

later when it's 'bercambah', we'll transfer it onto the ground and let it grows by climbing our fence. Mommy can't wait! can't wait! i wanna eat ceper!

my DIY book

Mommy got this idea because i don’t want you (and you lil' siblings) to know us, Mommy as Mommy and Abiy as Abiy. i remember then one day at a park, a little girl ‘lost’ her parents ad when people asked her “Who’s your mother? What’s her name” she cried and answered “Mamaaaa”. oh dear, ooh dear... how many Mamas were there… i wish all my babies know us by our name. and there’s no book in the world have our names inside. so why don’t i make one?

This is a very simple, easy and no time consuming. I do it while ironing our clothes :D

(oh, like I know very the many types :D).

A set of PC with printer
A4 Papers
Laminating films
Puncher
Ribbon
Iron, iron board and cloth

the assembly

insert the paper in the laminating film. i put it backward so that if keronyok2 it won't keronyokkan the face.

put the film+paper under the cloth you wanna iron.

when we done ironing, put it in order (front page, page 1, 2, 3..) and punch!

tie with ribbon and tadaaaa!

but the quality is very poor since i'm only using iron to laminate (plus not a pro. and this job requires skill OK). hmm.. anybody wanna sponsor a laminating machine? hehe. bole wat bisnes nih.

The Grand Old Lady

batu bersurat

"The 'Grand Old Lady' of Miri had had a remarkable record over her 62 years of life. She had operated almost non-stop from that day in December 1910, when she had first brought into production, until she was closed in 1941 due to war action. In that time, she had produced 563,484 barrels and was still producing 10 barrles per day. In three and a half years of occupation, Well No.1 worked for only 12 months during which she produced 4,371 barrels. At close, she was still managing to produce 3 barrels of oil a day and when finally stopped, had produced over 650,000 barrels of oil. In the last months of operation, one of the wells still creaking slowly up and down was that same well that began the saga of Miri Well Number One"

i planned to bring you here when you able to understand my words, so that i can explain about the process of exploration & production in oil and gas. but since Uncle Muhammad was here, we brought him to this very place, and definitely you had to follow. don't worry, we'll bring you here again for field trip later2 ok :D

the journey, well, a bit adventurous for our Myvi. thanks God, Canada Hill is just like a giant ant hill. if it's like Genting i bet we never reach there la :D

pompuan tua yg grand?

hey tolak kekuat sket, potong gaji karang

can i be the next drilling engineer?

petroleum museum

nice scenery from the top of Canada Hill

this is among the historical places in Miri. i like it, of course because it relates to oil and gas. this is the first oil field in Sarawak, and even in Malaysia (or in South East Asia?). those days, they dug the wells only by hands! how rich Borneo land was. and see how small Brunei is, but seems like she sits on a gigantic oil reservoir!

now all Malaysian oil wells are offshore. it's must be a more challenging operation. thanks to all offshore crew for your service (of course la they're paid) so that we can bring our wealth back to the nation.
